In preparation for Botswana 2026, Marcy spent 15 days riding in Idaho, British Columbia (Canada) and Washington state. She rode over 550 miles (880 kilometers) and climbed more than 20,000 feet (6,100 meters) through the northern Rocky Mountains on the Selkirk Splendor, the Hiawatha Trail and the Coeur d’Alene trail. For most of the ride, she cycled with a group of 11 other persons. They were “fully loaded” , carrying their own gear and food. There was no support vehicle. Highlights included bear sightings, bald eagles, bison and a skunk. Some of the route was on gravel and followed glacier fed rivers and lakes. No rain and no mosquitoes made for an almost perfect ride.
