Matt Gamser joined about 100 other cyclists (including one recumbent cyclist) in taking on Grateful Gravel, an annual very hilly challenge set by the Mad River Riders (a cycling club in the Mad River Valley, where Matt currently resides). Vermonters have an interesting sense of what “gravel” cycling is: our route contained significant stretches of what Matt would call single track mountain bike trails, which proved especially challenging.

There were plenty of hills, as must be expected in this narrow valley, which has high mountains on both sides. It took over 2 and a half hours to complete the slightly less than 36 kilometer course – but that was in large part due to the 883 meters in elevation change en route. A good time was had by all, and there was some great scenery on the ride!
