Fantastic that Greg and @inclusivecyclinginternational are joining the ride, and contributing more adaptive cycles! As Greg writes, “In 2023 Inclusive Cycling International helped the Botswana Council for the Disabled launch a handcycling program. They have been remarkable successful at sustaining this project independently for three years and creating numerous opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in local and even international events – even though they have just a few handcycles. With the support of Bidii Yetu, they have organized a 1000 km fundraising and awareness raising handcycle and bike ride across the Kalahari desert to expand and support their programs. Even more, Bidii Yetu is promoting this ride as a proof of concept for future rides organized by other programs in other countries, and building capacity for locally funded, locally supported sustainable programs.
I’ll be riding on a tandem with a visually impaired Botswanan athlete (would I keep up otherwise?) and the other riders are Botswanan and American handcyclists and cyclists. Please consider making a donation to my ride that will directly support the Botswana Council for the Disabled and their programs.”
